How we build shelf-life answers
TossOrKeep publishes planning windows, not guarantees. The storage instruction and use-by date on your exact product always take priority.
Publishing rule
Only editorially approved foods enter search, the sitemap, APIs, downloads, or AI answer feeds. Automated drafts stay noindex until their identity, claims, and sources are checked.
UK and US answers
UK answers use Food Standards Agency handling principles plus product-label expectations. US answers use FoodSafety.gov and USDA FoodKeeper storage guidance. Regional agencies often publish category guidance rather than one universal number for every branded product, so each answer is a conservative planning window.
Primary references
- UK Food Standards Agency: Chilling (UK)
- FoodSafety.gov: Cold Food Storage Charts (US)
- USDA FSIS FoodKeeper data catalogue (US)
How to cite an answer
Use the exact item page as the citation. Machine clients can use the citation-ready JSON index, public API, or plain-text answer corpus.
Limitations
Storage temperature, handling, ingredients, processing, and packaging change shelf life. Never taste food to test safety. If a use-by date has passed, the package is damaged, or you are unsure, follow official advice and discard it.
